Last weekend, the Elk Grove Police Department in Sacramento County, California, received a call about a couple arguing in public. The responding officers probably weren’t expecting to find out that the cause of the argument was a Dodge Charger that ended up in a local pond.

The department said in a post on X that when officers arrived on the scene, they found one of the two people walking down the street. They allege that the person “exhibited clear signs of impairment,” despite the call having come in at around 8:40 a.m.

The person was holding car keys, and mentioned that they had parked their vehicle near a lake. When officers started looking around, they found tire marks leading to a pond, as well as damage to a gate surrounding the body of water.

As you’ve no doubt surmised, the car had crashed through the gate and fallen into the pond. Police immediately took efforts to ensure that no one was in the vehicle, but it took several days of coordinated efforts between traffic detectives, the Sacramento County Dive Team, and a local company to finally pull the vehicle out of the lake on Thursday, February 15.

As you can see from the photo of the recovery effort shared by the Elk Grove Police Department, the vehicle in question was a black Dodge Charger. The car was pulled out of the water by its rear wheels, and despite being submerged for a period of days, looks alright. Maybe a certain German tuning shop will be interested in restoring it after they finish with their Porsche.

While it’s a blessing that no one appears to have been injured in this incident, it certainly could have gone a lot worse. Police say they have charged the driver of the Charger with drunk driving and hit-and-run.
