• Ford is introducing multiple styling, hardware, and tech updates to America’s favorite pickup.
  • A new 3.0 V6 on base trucks makes the same power as the old 2.7 but torque peaks earlier.
  • MY27 lineup has more 5.0 V8 options, a Carhartt trim, and cheaper Tremor and Raptors.

Ford’s new Fathom EV has dominated Blue Oval truck conversation lately, but the F-150 is still the heart, soul, and biceps of the brand. To keep that heart beating and dealer tills ringing, Ford has updated the F-Series for 2027 with a new look, new trim, a brand new engine and some really useful towing tech.

On the aesthetic side, there are new grilles and wheels for the XLT, Lariat and King Ranch, plus a $62,660 F-150 Carhartt trim (pictured above and below) developed with the rugged, outdoor clothing crew. The Carhartt idea is carried over from the F-Series Super Duty and includes a bed protector, special 20-inch wheels, fender vents, and multiple Carhartt graphics and badges.

The new engine is the really big F-150 news, though looking at the bald numbers, you might not think so. Ford has swapped the old 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 and its 325 hp (330 PS) and 400 lb-ft (542 Nm) for a 3.0-liter version developing…exactly the same numbers.

Same Torque, But More Torque

Only they’re not quite the same, because the new six’s fuller torque curve (it peaks at 2,250 rpm instead of 3,500 rpm) serves up 10-11 percent more muscle in the parts of the rev range most commonly used in daily driving, Ford says. So while the 8,400-lbs (3,810 kg) tow limit hasn’t changed either – and remains way down on the 400-hp (406 PS) 3.5 EcoBoost’s 13,500 lbs (6,120 kg) rating – hauling that boat, project car or side-by-side should feel more effortless.

Particularly since Ford will soon expand its BlueCruise hands-free driving assistant to towing situations. The automaker says 75 percent of F-150 drivers tow, and BlueCruise with Towing works on 130,000 miles (209,000 km) of routes. The big surprise is that existing subscribers get the tow helper without being asked for more dough.

More V8 Options

In other hauling-related news, Ford is expanding availability of its 400-hp (406 PS), 5.0 V8 to the King Ranch and Platinum. Those badges haven’t enjoyed a V8 option since 2003. Other engine options include a 430-hp (436 PS) 3.5-liter V6 PowerBoost hybrid, a 450-hp (456 PS) 3.5 EcoBoost in the Raptor, and the 720-hp (730 PS) 5.2-liter V8 in the Raptor R.

The $114k Raptor R remains out of financial reach for most buyers, but Ford says it’s making the regular Raptor and Tremor trims more affordable for 2027. Prices are still TBC (the Tremor cost $67,710 in MY26, and the Raptor $81,800), but stripping away some gadgets ought to shave a grand or two off each.

The new entry-level Raptor loses the head-up display, fog lamps, 2kW onboard power supply, power passenger seats and steering column, and also suffers a sound system downgrade. And the base Tremor is now based on the STX, losing its heated seats, dual-zone climate, running boards, and power rear glass in the process.
