Porsche Cayenne Driver Thinks he has a Real 4x4 and Tries to Speed Through the Water…

|

We will admit that the Porsche Cayenne is pretty good at a lot of things but a real, capable off-roader or "4x4" it is not.

Nevertheless, we believe that even the Cayenne could have navigated through this flooded underpass if the driver had taken a more cautious approach entering at a low speed instead of slamming the pedal to the metal disturbing the water in front of him.

Our tipster Alexia told us that this incident occurred in the German city of Hamburg and that just before the Porsche driver enthusiastically attempted to cross the water, someone from the crowd shouted, "Go for it! I can promise you that you will make it!"

See what happened next in the video after the jump.

Thanks to Alexia Z. for the video tip!

This is one of the situations where height adjustment option becomes handy

I think he already adjusted the height.

Since when did group Vag including Porsche learned to make a proper 4X4 with true off road capabilities? They've re badged Toyota's in the past and copied the 4X4 system found in the Mitsubishi EVO VII.
They are luxurious, they are fast but for road use only...

I think the Toureg & the Cayenne are pretty capable off-road if you have the right equipment.
I've had a 100 series Land Cruiser, a Classic L322 Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and a Cayenne S.
The only problem you may face is if you have large rims, 20 inch rims in my case, it makes it a tough ride on hard surfaces and more likely to sink on soft surfaces. Other than that, the Cayenne is just as capable and even better than the Sport Range Rover.

Why do all the other people have to do all the work, he should push the car harder... Everybody is trying better than him.

Looks like the turbo model, I know those have air ride on them but can't tell if he bothered to lift it for off roading.  Driving it through the water when the front is a huge scoop shooting water right into the radiator sounds stupid.

Silly Porsche your not a Jeep!

What an ignorant journalist statement...

"We will admit that the Porsche Cayenne is pretty good at a lot of things but a real, capable off-roader or "4x4" it is not."

Way to do your research...try Googling the "Transsyberian Rally", and see what you get.

I guess these Cayenne drivers just got "lucky" in their fake 4x4's.

If he had gone slowly he would have been ok.  Just like any car in that situation really.  The water wasnt moving and it was only about 400mm deep the deepest point.  The blame goes to the driver not the car.  He force fed it water, via his ego.

you don't have the 4 of them :) if you did you'd ditch them all for the land cruiser.

Pureworx said... »October 14, 2012

that has been modified for that... note the snorkel.

Maybe the smart driver should consider a Jeep for next time?

All the driver had to do was take it easy and he would've made it just fine.  When you plow through the water at speeds like that, it gets blown up in the engine bay by the wake and the radiator fan, dousing the electronic system, and that's not good in any vehicle.

Most modern cars have sealed systems, so as long as you don't submerge the computer and distributor or suck water into the engine intake you'll be okay.

This has to be among the worst attempts at an article there has been in a while here. The commentary is numb, biased and ignorant. Worst of all, there is an air of self-righteousness and smugness which absolutely disgusts me. If I wanted to read such garbage, I'd go straight to Youtube. But since I don't, I hope this is an exception rather than an example for the articles to come.

VW Touareg also does this : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N68nWerJDV8 (after min. 2:10) .

You can bog anything out if you hit the water right.  Slow and easy gets you through the flooded wash..  Unless the road is gone!

Jim Wile said... »October 15, 2012

At least he admits that he's and idiot....

Pureworx said... »October 16, 2012

funny how the nissan made it through. VAG can't build off roaders.

Oh boy. Sounds like someone needs to take a fewrocky ridge trucks for a drive, then he can do whatever he wants and not get stuck.
