VW is preparing for the market launch of the refreshed Volkswagen Scirocco, which will arrive in dealerships across Europe starting in August, with a fresh photo gallery.

The facelifted Scirocco features updated engines with up to 20PS (20hp) more power and up to 19 percent more fuel-efficient. There are six TSI and TDI engines to choose from (four TSIs and two TDIs).

The entry-level engine is the 1.4 TSI with 125PS (123hp), followed by the 2.0-liter TSI unit available in three states of tune: 180PS / 178bhp (+20hp), 220PS / 217bhp (+10hp) and the range-topping 280PS / 276hp (+15hp) for the Scirocco R.

On the diesel side, the 2.0-liter TDI engine is offered with 150PS / 148hp (+10hp) or 184PS / 181hp (+7hp). The most frugal engine in the range is the 148hp 2.0 TDI with 4.2 l/100 km (56 mpg US), while the most economical gasoline unit is the 123hp 1.4 TSI with 5.4 l/100 km (43.5 mpg US).

Thanks to power increases, acceleration figures are better now. The 180 PS version accelerates to 100 km/h in 7.4 instead of 8.0 seconds, while top speed has improved by 9 km/h to 227 km/h (141 mph). The Scirocco 2.0 TDI with 150 PS is also quicker to 100 km/h by 0.7 seconds, covering the sprint in 8.6 seconds. Top speed has increased from 207 to 215 km/h (for the manual version).

VW has also added new equipment features which include the 400 watt sound system Dynaudio Excite, Blind Spot Monitor and the park steering assistant (ParkAssist). Also new as standard are auxiliary instruments (charge pressure, chronometer, engine oil temperature) which pay tribute to the original Scirocco.
