Dubuc Motors Wants to Become Tesla’s Canadian “Cousin” with EV Range

After bringing out its Tomahawk kit car at the 2014 Montreal Auto Show in January, Canada’s Dubuc Motors now wants to become an EV maker with “Tesla’s cousin, the Tomahawk”. Those are their words, not ours.

When it introduced the kit car, the Canadian startup said that owners / builders could bolt on almost any type of powerplant, but that it was also exploring the possibility of manufacturing a battery-powered version itself in Quebec and selling completed cars.

The company said on Tuesday that it plans to reveal their pure-electric 2017 Tomahawk, along with a taxi and a utility model, both riding on the same chassis utilized for the Tomahawk kit car, in 2016.

Dubuc says it’s currently looking for investors to fund their plans. “We are at the forefront of something huge! Millions of dollars in grants from the government are available, it’s the perfect time to invest” said Dubuc Motors co-founder and COO Mike Kakogiannakis.

According to Dubuc, the all-aluminum Tomahawk EV will be able to accelerate to 60mph (96 km/h) in just over three seconds before topping out at 140mph (225 km/h), while offering an extended range of 275 miles (442 km).

They claim that it will be “conveniently welcoming the big and tall (6 foot 5, 275 lbs) with a luxurious interior cab forward design and a customizable dashboard setting” and that it will be priced under $100,000.
