Honesty in the automotive industry is oftentimes a reclusive trait, but you still get a greater sense of it with Japanese brands. It may be a reflection of the Japanese way of being and doing business, but that’s a lengthy discussion topic and it’s perfectly captured in this latest ad for Subaru’s new Forester.

Yes, it’s still an ad meant to make you buy a product, but at least it doesn’t use silly sci-fi movie references or crazy stunts to woo you. Subaru’s ads have always had exuded a feeling of common sense and realism, and with this latest one they’re still at it from that angle, while also trying to make you weep.

I mean “you can pass down a Subaru” is a pretty epic punchline; try using it at the end of a Fiat, Renault or Perodua ad – you couldn’t get away with it, but Subaru does and you get what they’re on about. If only they looked at how other automakers make car interiors pleasant…
