We don’t know if the leaked photos of the new Megane over the weekend sped up Renault’s presentation plans, but the French have followed up with the first video of their compact hatch.

The short promo shows the 2016 Megane in motion to highlight the five-door model’s design, which Renault describes as “dynamic” and “distinctive”, while the car’s exterior designer, Franck Le Gall, adds that their goal was to create a vehicle that “stands out right from the first glance” in the highly competitive C-segment.

Frankly, we’re still on the fence about the fourth-gen Megane’s styling. On one hand, it does have more character than the outgoing model, but on other, the standout design cues look forced and overdone from some angles, especially on the front end.

For other details, including engines and specs, we’ll have to wait until the full reveal at Renault’s Frankfurt Motor Show stand on September 15.
