A few weeks ago, the new Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 lost its bulky camo, revealing most of its bold details clearly for the very first time.

The team at Automobile Magazine report that, just like the fifth-gen car before it, the new Camaro ZL1 will be offered in both hardtop and convertible guises.

As with the coupe , the upcoming ZL1 Convertible will be discernible from the rest of the soft-top models thanks to the large new rear wing as well as the front bumper and splitter package. A set of massive brakes are also present, giving off a hint of the car’s improved performance.

Speaking of performance, the new Camaro ZL1 and ZL1 Convertible models are tipped to receive the same LT4 6.2-litre supercharged V8 engine as the latest CTS-V and Corvette Z06. Although it remains to be seen, there’s a very good chance that engine will remain identical as it is in the Z06, meaning the new ZL1 could have as much as 650 hp and 650 lb-ft under the hood. To put those figures into perspective, the 2013 ZL1 offers 580 hp and 556 lb-ft of torque. Now, that’s what we call a serious power upgrade…

As per previous reports, it is suggested that the new Camaro ZL1 will debut at next month’s 2016 Detroit Motor Show. At this stage, it isn’t known if the ZL1 Convertible will make its premiere alongside the coupe or be launched at a later date.
