With the new M3 F80 making waves in the motoring industry, it’s becoming widely accepted that the model is BMW’s finest M-hour. Still, how does it cope against its predecessors?

Fortunately, Car Throttle answered the question with its monster comparison between all the M3 models ever made, beginning with the now iconic E30, all the way to the latest twin-turbocharged, straight-six powered model.

Now, performance-wise, BMW isn’t the kind of car maker to take steps back with its products, so don’t get surprised if the F80 is crowned king-performer. Fortunately, CT’s take on the matter isn’t clinical, and instead of coughing up numbers, it describes the overall feedback the cars offer, putting emphasis on handling.

Mind you, all M3 generations are great machines, and each one comes with their own unique approach – mirroring the technical expertise (or limitations) of their era. If you treat the E36 M3 for what it is, then it’s undoubtedly a great car, and so is the E46. But we won’t spoil the video for you, but you’d might be surprised with the final results.
