While the FIA World Rally Championship looks set to become even more exciting from 2017, it will still be no match for rallying during the Group B era of the 1980s.

Back then, the cars used weren’t based around affordable hatchbacks like they are nowadays and instead often built around potent sports cars and pioneered breakthrough technologies like all-wheel drive.

A rally series like Group B will never appear again, but still the crew at CarWow have decided to create some renderings of what the future of rallying could look like, filled with many of the world’s leading automakers.

Included in the range of renderings are the likes of the Porsche 911 (itself a car with some rally history), a Renault-Alpine racer and an Fiat 500 Abarth rally-spec monster. Among some of the most eye-opening are the Alfa Romeo Giulia, Ford Mustang, Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Rolls-Royce Wraith!

If you had to pick one for a weekend rally event, which would it be?
