The Ford Falcon is on its last legs, so the Australian car manufacturer has decided to send it off with a bang.

A limited-edition “Sprint” variant of the full-size vehicle is expected to make its debut for quite some time now, with Ford keeping the model’s technical characteristics a secret (throughout the development). Still, fresh details have emerged about the Falcon XR Sprint, and although it won’t be the hardest, most powerful Falcon ever created, it will surely make for a good performance package.

Motoring says there will be two versions of the Falcon Sprint; the cheaper XR6 automatic sedan, priced at $54,990 – $11,500 more than the standard 362hp/533Nm XR6 Turbo – with a 436hp/576Nm 4.0-litre inline turbo six under the hood, and the beefier XR8 powered by a 462hp/575Nm 5.0-litre supercharged V8 behemoth. The latter will apparently be available in both six-speed manual and automatic forms, and will be priced at $59,990 for the manual and $62,190 for the automatic.

To top it off, the Australian site goes on saying that Ford’s official 462hp/575Nm rating for the XR8 could be conservative, as the unit is much more capable. Nevertheless, knowing that the “standard” XR6 Turbo sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds, it’s safe to assume that both upcoming cars will compete for the title of the “quickest production Falcon ever made”.

The Falcon Sprint will be distinguished by revised fog light inserts, a unique stripe design, black roof and individually numbered engine cover. It will sit on 19-inch alloys and sport gold-painted six-piston front and four-piston rear Brembo brakes. Of course, there will also be plenty of “Sprint” badges to point for the obvious.
