VW Takata Recall Involves Most Of The Brand’s Models

Defective Takata airbag inflators have struck Volkswagen too, as the German manufacturer announced a new recall in the United States.

The campaign covers approximately 680,000 vehicles produced by the brand, which may be equipped with defective Takata airbag inflators. In the event of a crash, metal fragments could pass through the airbag cushion material, leading to injury and possible death to the vehicle occupants.

Volkswagen states that it is not aware of any ruptured SDI or PSDI-5 inflators in any of its cars, worldwide. Owners of the affected cars will be notified once recall remedy and all VINs will be identified and they will be instructed to arrange an appointment with an authorized dealer.

Affected cars include certain 2006-2010MY Passat Sedan and Wagon, produced in Germany, 2012-2014 Eos, 2010-2014 Golf, 2010-2014 Jetta SportWagen, 2012-2014 Passat built in U.S. and 2009-2014 CC.

The new recall comes right in the midst of the emissions scandal, after the VW Group had proposed fixes for the 2.0-liter TDI engine in Europe. Overseas, a similar plan for the 3.0-liter V6 diesel is yet to be approved. Earlier this year, EPA rejected the manufacturer’s solution to fix the 2.0-liter TDIs, installed with emissions cheating software.
