BMW is reportedly working on a lighter, faster derivative of the M2 Coupe, which could be named the GTS or even resurrect the CSL moniker.

German magazine Auto Motor und Sport reports that the company has green-lighted a stripped, track-focused version of the M2 Coupe with more horses under the bonnet.

The new hardcore version will probably feature lighter body panels made out of carbon-fiber accompanied by a more aggressive aero package and close to 400hp from an updated version of the turbocharged 3.0-litre straight six engine.

Other revisions include the removal of sound-deadening material and that of the rear seats. The chassis will gain an adjustable suspension and bigger, more powerful brakes to take advantage of the lighter body and the increased power levels.

We are still not sure if BMW is indeed prepping a fully blown CSL/GTS version of the M2 Coupe but we sure don’t mind if they do. Given that the company is celebrating its 100th birthday this year, it will be only appropriate for BMW and its fans to launch a special car like this.
