This is a question posed by many, ever since the news broke about Bentley even thinking about building a crossover.

Now that the Bentley Bentayga is here, though, that question must be answered. After all, this is the world’s first super-luxury SUV aiming at a very rich clientele.

Power comes from a twin-turbo 6.0-litre W12 engine which makes 600hp (608PS) and 663lb-ft (900Nm) of torque, allowing the Bentayga to catapult itself to 60mph in 4 seconds flat (0-100km/h in 4.1 sec). Bentley’s claim for the fastest SUV in the planet is accompanied by the frankly ridiculous top speed of 187mph (301km/h).

On paper, the Range Rover SVAutobiography looks like it has nothing to be jealous of. It too has a beautiful cabin with expensive materials and lots of room, excellent road manners and even better off-road ones. It even has a supercharged V8 with 542hp that sounds amazing when you floor it.

But it all comes down to the pricing of both: with the top-of-the-line Range Rover asking for £148,645 and the entry-level Bentley Bentayga starting at £160,200, the weight of the comparison drops on the latter’s shoulders which has to prove if it’s worth it.
