An interior picture of the Tesla Model 3 has emerged online, providing us with a view from the cabin of the electric car on the street for the first time.

When the automaker unveiled the Model 3 in prototype guise earlier in the year, cars had remarkably sparse interiors, free of any traditional gauges, switches or knobs. The Model 3 interior pictured looks identical to the concept and even though the original Instagram post was suspiciously removed, there’s a very good chance this isn’t in fact the interior of the production-spec Model 3.

In fact, following the model’s preview, company executive Elon Musk revealed that the finished interior of the Model 3 is dramatically different to the concept. On Twitter he said that the square-shaped steering wheel won’t make it through to production and that the steering controls (e.g. turn signals etc) will resemble a “spaceship”.

A feature which should see the light of day is the large touchscreen and infotainment system. Rather than the massive vertical display of the Model S and Model X, the Model S concept and the example pictured has a large horizontal display jutting out of the dashboard. As with the firm’s other models, all the car’s primary functions will be accessible through this screen.

One thing left unanswered is the car’s gauge cluster or lack thereof. Musk has made no comment about whether or not the Model 3 will have a gauge cluster like the Model S/X and this latest image reveals nothing we didn’t already know. There’s a possibility Tesla may integrate the speedometer, odometer and range displays into the touchscreen or use a heads-up display. Alternatively, a set of gauges may make their way into the finished product.

Whatever the case may be, all should be revealed when the Model 3 is unveiled in production guise next year.
