According to Japan’s Meteorological Agency, Super Typhoon Meranti is officially one of the three most powerful typhoons ever recorded.

Thus, this poor fella didn’t stand much of a chance as debris that looks like an ad billboard came flying in, hitting him in the face and knocking him off the scooter.

While over Taiwan, Meranti was sustaining winds of 290 km/h (180 mph) and gusts of up to 350 km/h (217 mph) – the equivalent of a Category 5 hurricane on the five-point Saffir-Simpson scale. After watching the video several times, it’s obvious to us that the man saw the debris coming. He stops the scooter and even attempts to jump off, though by that point it’s too late.

Unfortunately, this is just one of the many injuries in Taiwan, where according to The Sun, lots of power lines were brought down by strong winds and falling trees, cutting electricity to as many as 550,000 households.

There were also lots of vehicles damaged and many traffic signs toppled by Meranti, which is now making its way into China as reported by meteorologists. The China News Service has gone on record saying that this could be the strongest typhoon to hit them since 1969.

As if one super storm wasn’t enough, Meranti hit only two months after the deadly typhoon Nepartak forced thousands of people to flee from their homes across central and southern Taiwan.
