Mercedes took the covers off their Generation EQ concept last month during the 2016 Paris Auto Show, where they also revealed that it would hit the market before the end of the decade.

The production-ready EQ SUV will be the first of more than 10 fully electric cars that Mercedes is planning on launching by the year 2025, with the GLC-like crossover set to arrive in 2019.

Daimler will build the car at their Bremen plant, which currently also makes the C-Class, E-Class, GLC, SL and SLC models, and will also house the fuel-cell operated GLC, as reported by Autonews.

The EQ SUV’s new battery is said to be developed by Accumotive and produced in Kamenz. Overall, Mercedes have claimed a driving range of up to 500 km (310 miles) on a single charge – which would put them directly in “Tesla-rivaling territory”.

In terms of straight line performance, the Generation EQ Concept was claimed to put down 402 HP and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 5 seconds.

As for pricing, Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche said that the final product would cost about as much as a “reasonably equipped Mercedes GLC”.
