BMW has trademarked a plethora of new model names which could point towards a series of hardcore performance vehicles.

According to Auto Guide, the German marque recently filed patents with the World Intellectual Property Organization for M1 CS through to M8 CS.

While the exact reason for this isn’t known, it’s possibly planning a range of variants to sit above its ‘regular’ M-badged models, potentially in a similar vein to the Mercedes-AMG S range.

Recently, a number of mysterious BMW M2 prototypes have been spied in the midst of testing, including at the Nurburgring, adorned with a selection of aerodynamic aids. It is possible that this faster M2 model will be dubbed the M2 CS, potentially making it the first in the CS family.

Also spied in the last few months have been hotted-up M4 mules, indicating that a second CS badged model may be just around the corner.
