Right after BMW released the M2, rumors in the industry suggested that an even more powerful model based on the high-performance coupe is in the pipelines. Could this be it?

If the standard (if you can call it that) M4 has the GTS variant as a hard-boiled track-oriented counterpart for those looking for something with a bit more bite, why wouldn’t the M2 get something similar?

A GTS/CSL edition, maybe – because one can only do so much with a 365 hp and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft), twin-turbocharged car that’s capable of reaching 0 to 100 in 4.5 seconds (4.3 if equipped with the 7-speed DCT transmission).

Back in July, a report claimed that a stripped, track-focused version of the M2 Coupe has been green-lighted, and now sightings of a camouflaged M2 tester are appearing on the Nurburgring. YouTuber Supercarsfromeu caught the car on the Green Hell, but the razzle dazzle camouflage does a terrific job of covering the details.

The alleged M2 GTS/CSL variant could come with a revised aero package (sporting carbon fiber bits and bobs), and like in the M4 Moto GP Safety Car’s case, the M2 MotoGP version could hold some clues regarding the production model’s looks.

An upgraded variant of the twin-turbo 2,979 cc inline-six, boasting closer to 400 hp, could be expected under the hood, but before the project officially materializes we’re left only with rumors.
