Ford has unveiled a selection of new driver-assist technologies designed to make driving that little bit easier and safer.

The carmaker is currently developing a new cross-traffic alert with braking technology that aims to reduce parking stress be automatically detecting people and objects passing behind the vehicle. If necessary, the system will be able to automatically apply the brakes if the driver doesn’t respond to alerts.

Elsewhere, Ford is creating a new feature dubbed Evasive steering assist. Operating through radar and a camera, the system is able to detect slower-moving and stationary vehicles ahead and if a collision is imminent, will provide steering support to the driver. The system is only activated if there isn’t enough room to avoid a collision solely be braking.

Also new from the company is Wrong-way alert technology. As the name suggests, it uses a windshield-mounted camera and the vehicle’s navigation system to warn a driver if they are driving in the wrong direction.

Other technologies being developed by Ford including Spot lighting technology, Camera-based advanced front light system and Traffic Jam Assist.

The first of those uses an infrared camera to detect pedestrians, cyclists and animals. As for the advanced front lighting system, it widens the headlight beam at intersections and roundabouts. Last but not least is Traffic Jam Assist which helps the driver remain in the center of a lane.
