Vauxhall, the UK arm of Opel, has launched the new Insignia Sports Tourer in the United Kingdom, with prices kicking off at £18,685.

Based on an all-new architecture, the new Insignia Sports Tourer is up to 200kg (440lbs) lighter than its predecessor, despite a larger interior for both passengers and luggage.

Thanks to the bigger cabin, rear passengers will enjoy 25mm more knee and shoulder room, 32mm more room at hip height and 8mm more headroom. Fold the rear seats flat and you get 1,665lt of capacity, which is 135lt more than the previous model.

A wide selection of petrol and diesel engines will cover most needs; the petrol range kicks off with the new 1.5-litre turbo that’s available in 140PS and 165PS versions, while the range-topping all-wheel drive petrol model is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre with 260PS, mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Diesel models start with the 1.6-litre diesel offered in 110PS and 136PS versions, with the range-topper using a 170PS 2.0-litre unit.

The new Insignia Sports Tourer also comes packed with all the latest driver assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision alert and advanced park assist among others.

Apart from the latest Intellink infotainment systems with Android Auto and Apple Car Play, the new wagon version also features the new OnStar services that now include hotel bookings and parking, wireless charging for compatible smartphones and a WiFi hotspot function.
