Jaguar I-PACE Is Quick And Fun To Drive, In First Review

Until recently, people looking for an all-electric premium crossover only had the Tesla Model X to aspire to, with pretty much every other choice featuring an internal combustion engine as part of a hybrid system.

Now there’s the Jaguar I-PACE, which also happens to be Jaguar’s first all-electric car, boasting a 90kWh lithium-ion battery and two electric motors per axle, producing a combined 400 PS (395 HP) and 696 Nm (513 lb-ft) of torque.

In a straight line, the I-PACE will even hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in as little as 4.5 seconds, which not too many years ago would have been worthy of a supercar – and while pure speed isn’t what this car is all about, Carwow was pleasantly surprised by its performance.

They didn’t get to sample the I-PACE as much as they would have wanted, but the reviewer did take it out on a handling course where he had a bit of fun with it while going around in circles.

There were also other positives, such as how there’s decent space in the back for adults, a generous boot and better materials than you get in the F-PACE, but since this was just a first impressions video, we didn’t get a lot of extra info.

Still, the I-PACE looks promising by all accounts and we definitely expect Tesla to take notice. The full-electric crossover segment will start to get pretty crowded over the next few years.

    Tesla worry!

  • Not that I don’t believe it. But this is Carwow. I was expecting more mainstream reviewer such as Car.

But again with British car, British journalists tend to be soft with it.

Yet, they gave him a left-hand drive car. That’s odd.

      • That’s signalling where is the major market for this Jag.

  • Bash

And looks better than a Tesla. WAY much better than any Tesla.

  • LWOAP

Better value than the Model X for sure. It’s cheaper and arguably faster than the more affordable variants Tesla has to offer. Oh and it doesn’t have those silly falcon doors.

  • MUMBLING MAT GOT HIS HANDS ON THIS QUICK.

I saw a quick review in italian television .., they said it wasn’t fun to drive ( dull ride) and morover to heavy 2.133 kg ..

  • Bash

Well, to each have his own.

I agree. to each their own. I don’t think the Tesla is a good looking car. I think Tesla has great PR. The hype and the status of Tesla makes them desirable. Anyway, it’s a different approach to luxury.

    ” 60 mph (96 km/h) in as little as 4.5 seconds”
half ability of the Tesla 5 door family sedan.
What is the re-charge requirement? 100klms?
    Price?
    availability?
Until it is on the market and available for purchase everything is theoretical and publicity seeking ONLY!!
    ;>)

Yeah, but it’s a Jaguar so only a handful of people will consider it.
