New Audi A1 Launched In UK With £18,540 Starting Price

Coinciding with the media launch of the 2019 Audi A1, the second-gen supermini is now up for grabs in the United Kingdom, with the first deliveries commencing at the end of the month.

Available as a five-door Sportback in three grades (SE, Sport and S Line), it requires that you spend at least £18,540 ($23,710/€20,819) for the base model, and £20,010 ($25,590/€22,470) and £21,660 ($27,700/€24,322) for the other two, respectively.

Standard gear found in the entry-level version includes LED headlights and taillights, digital instrument cluster, MMI radio plus with touchscreen display, Audi smartphone interface with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Digital Audio Broadcasting sound system.

Optional extras include the Audi Virtual Cockpit, a larger 10.1-inch MMI touchscreen infotainment, and a Bang & Olufsen premium sound system, among others.

Offered at no extra cost are the Lane Departure Warning, Audi Pre Sense Front, and speed limiter, whereas the Adaptive Speed Assist, reversing camera and Park Assist are found on the options list.

The 2019 Audi A1 is currently available with a single engine, in 30 TFSI form. This is a 1.0-liter three-cylinder unit, rated at 116 PS (114 hp / 85 kW) and 200 Nm (148 lb-ft) of torque, which allows the car to sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 9.4 seconds with the 7-speed auto, or 9.5 seconds with the six-speed manual gearbox. Top speed is 203 km/h (126 mph) in both versions.

The engine lineup will be extended early next year to include the 95 PS (94 hp / 70 kW) 25 TFSI, 150 PS (148 hp / 110 kW) 1.5-liter 35 TFSI and 200 PS (197 hp / 147 kW) 2.0-liter TFSI. All mills are turbocharged, direct-injected and feature a particulate filter, and can be paired to a manual or a 7-speed automatic DCT, except for the 200 PS version, which is available with a 6-speed automatic transmission solely.

Audi will further expand the range in the UK with the introduction of two special editions, called the A1 S Line Contrast Edition and S Line Style Edition. Both of them are said to be launched with a choice of vivid colors, darkened LED taillights, black coloring for the grille and tailgate logos, 18-inch alloy wheels in bronze or black, and different exterior and interior packages.

      And?

It’s hideously overpriced. Take the basic SE, add a few minor options like any colour other than solid white, a contrast roof and a centre armrest for the driver and you’re within spitting distance of a £20,000 car.

Still no fan of the crazy “Quattro-look” grille and the segmented head and tail lights. Looks like some LEDs are broken… Would have hoped for some cleaner lines as on the new Audi Q3 which I do like design wise.
Im very curious about the not-so-Audi-like perceived interior quality which if read in almost every review. If the A1 is close to the VW T-Roc interior then it indeed it is a very cheap interior quality compared to the price tag and Audi brand claim.
