November has not been a good month so far for the Durham, North Carolina 11ft8in (3.55m) bridge, as it has already claimed two over-height vehicles.

The last one to fall victim to the low bridge was a box truck, whose driver ignored all the “low clearance” signs and flashing lights that precede the underpass.

The video recorded by the surveillance cameras on November 7 shows the driver didn’t even slow down as he approached the rail bridge. As a result, the crash beam took a sizable bite from the truck’s box, cutting it open and suddenly bringing the truck to a halt. It was a pretty violent impact judging by the sound it made. Not to mention the fact that the truck tractor got pulled in the air for a while.

What do you think the driver did when the wheels touched the ground again? He backed out and drove in another direction, only to hit a 12-foot-clearance bridge on Chapel Hill St. as well! There’s no footage of the second crash, but the video does include some photos.

Just think about it for a moment. This driver hit two different low-clearance bridges in a matter of minutes. In our book, that makes him the undisputed champion of this made-up category, there’s no doubt about that.

Topping this “performance” off will take a lot of commitment from the truck driver. However, if we learnt something from watching so many traffic accidents every week, it’s that we should never underestimate truck drivers. Or any type of driver, for that matter.
