Police Officer Barely Escapes Getting Hit By Sliding Box Truck

A traffic officer in Yekaterinburg, Russia managed to escape at the last moment as an out-of-control box truck came sliding towards him. Even though the incident took place about a month ago, the footage made it online only recently.

The reason the truck driver lost control in the first place appears to be a car that pulled out ahead of them, causing a typical cold weather brake-and-slide scenario. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, according to Russian media outlet E1.

We’ve also learned that the person driving the truck was 29 years old and had been doing this for a living for the past 8 years, so it definitely wasn’t a lack of experience that led to the crash.

Despite playing the footage multiple times, it still amazes us how close of a call this was; if the officer had reacted fractions of a second later, he could have been killed by the careening truck.

As far as close calls go, this one has to be way up there with an incident that occurred last year in Australia, when a motorcycle rider was hit from behind and almost pushed into the path of an incoming box truck. Then there’s this incident from Vietnam, which took place a few months ago – had that woman not run away when she did… to be honest, we’d rather not even think about it.

Russia. They create accidents even when there is no conditions for it.

    • exeptor

There is a chance for black ice which cause the sliding when heavy breaking.

      • I’d say the car merging in front of the truck was too slow and caused the truck to slide.

        • exeptor

          This as well.

  • Astonman

    His reaction time was slooowwww…

    • he knew exactly what to do.

    • brn

Watching something on an internet video is a lot different than dealing with it in real life. The dude managed to do what was needed to stay alive. Good for him or her.

      • Astonman

True. It appears that it took his brains a little time to make a decision to move. It’s almost as if he didn’t believe that it was happening and reacted at the last second. .It will be different for different people. If you looked at the video of the truck that plowed through a barrier and crossed the street in Vietnam, the lady with her baby reacted quickly.

  • kachuks

That dude needs to go out and buy a lotto ticket.

    • Marc Gruben

I think he used up all the good luck he’ll ever have.

  • dumblikeyou2

Haha, I love Russian’s “why are you over-reacting?” attitude.

  • Marc Gruben

Wow… dude definitely needs some new shorts. And they need to hunt down the idiot in the black sedan that merged too slowly in front of that truck. Good thing the dash cam caught the license plate.

  • Ken Lyns

Could also be self-inflicted. Why is the cop blocking traffic at the end of a merge lane?

    • brn

I doubt he was doing it for the heck of it.

  • Paul

What a lucky bugger. He could be pushing up daisies.
