For the 2020MY, Ford will launch the Mustang Shelby GT500, a true track weapon with over 700 horsepower. Until that beast of a Mustang arrives, enthusiasts will have to settle for the lesser GT350, which is currently the range-topping model.
Updated for the 2019 model year, the GT350 continues to draw power from a flat-plane crank 5.2-liter V8, rated at 526 hp (533 PS / 392 kW) and 429 lb-ft (581 Nm) of torque. Enthusiasts know that that’s the same level of power as before, which is still channeled to the wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.
As for the newer parts, those include an all-new rear spoiler with an optional Gurney flap which improve aerodynamics at higher speeds. The muscle car also gets new 19-inch alloy wheels, wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, modified suspension and updated electric power steering. Stopping power is provided by beefy Brembo brakes, with 6-piston front and 4-piston rear calipers.
Inside, Ford has only changed the dashboard trim and door panel inserts. The Recaro seats are still standard with passengers treated to the same good, but not great, build quality. They will also enjoy the 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation and premium sound system, although some are available as options.
The 2019 GT350 undercuts the 650 hp Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 by around $3,000, with a $59,140 MSRP, though adding a few extras will easily bump closer to the $69,000 BMW M4.
Paying the sticker price is worth it, as this is the best-handling Mustang yet, says RoadShow in their review, which took the muscle car out for a spin on public roads and on the track.
