Aside from having over 500 horsepower each, these two cars simply couldn’t be more different. On one hand, you have a slightly modded track-focused Shelby GT350, whereas the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio is a lot more practical and family oriented, not to mention stock.
Normally, pushing a Shelby GT350 to its limits in a straight line means drawing energy from a 526 HP 5.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 unit. This car however has an E85 tune, giving it around 500 horsepower at the wheel (WHP). So at the crank, we guesstimate around 600 HP, maybe.
Either way, it’s more than what the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio (or QV) brings to the table, with its Ferrari-approved 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, making 505 HP. Of course, all things being equal, it’s the Giulia who’s quicker in a straight line, needing only 3.9 seconds to hit 62 mph (100 km/h).
The thing is, these guys probably figured there was no use racing the two cars from a standstill, so all runs were executing from a roll, which clearly benefited the GT350. On top of that, the E85 tune gave it more of an edge, especially at high revs.
In the end, the most obvious wow-factor surrounding the GT350 is its incredible soundtrack – aided in this particular case by the cat delete. So whether you’re following the Mustang-mounted camera or the one on the Giulia, you’ll always be aware of which car is louder.
