Red may be the color best associated with Ferrari, but this clip of a 2020 C8 Corvette shows that it works very nicely on Chevy’s brand new mid-engined supercar as well.

This is the first video of the new C8 we’ve come across which shows the car in the light of day and without any camouflage on its bodywork.

The sun, and the color, really accentuate the design of the car. There are more angular surfaces than we had previously realized, particularly across the rear quarter panels. Up front, it’s hard not to appreciate all the pointed surfaces which kinda remind us of the design of the iconic B-2 Stealth Bomber. We also get the opportunity to hear the naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 and, thankfully, it sounds just as good as the LT1 we came to know and love in the C7.

While the engine powering the entry-level C8 Corvette Stingray has the same displacement as the LT1, Chevrolet has comprehensively modified it, so it now pumps out 490 HP and 465 lb-ft (630 Nm) of torque in standard form and 495 HP and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm) with the Z51 Performance Package. The new ‘Vette will be sold exclusively with a dual-clutch eight-speed transmission sending power to the rear wheels, helping the Z51 hit 60 mph (96 km/h) from a standstill in less than three seconds.

Finally, What seems to have really excited people about the new Corvette is that it will start at less than $60,000 – much less than most had expected. Something tells us Chevy dealers are already putting the bubbly on ice…
