The C8 Corvette Looks A Million Bucks Out In The Open, But Only Costs $60K

Red may be the color best associated with Ferrari, but this clip of a 2020 C8 Corvette shows that it works very nicely on Chevy’s brand new mid-engined supercar as well.

This is the first video of the new C8 we’ve come across which shows the car in the light of day and without any camouflage on its bodywork.

The sun, and the color, really accentuate the design of the car. There are more angular surfaces than we had previously realized, particularly across the rear quarter panels. Up front, it’s hard not to appreciate all the pointed surfaces which kinda remind us of the design of the iconic B-2 Stealth Bomber. We also get the opportunity to hear the naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 and, thankfully, it sounds just as good as the LT1 we came to know and love in the C7.

While the engine powering the entry-level C8 Corvette Stingray has the same displacement as the LT1, Chevrolet has comprehensively modified it, so it now pumps out 490 HP and 465 lb-ft (630 Nm) of torque in standard form and 495 HP and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm) with the Z51 Performance Package. The new ‘Vette will be sold exclusively with a dual-clutch eight-speed transmission sending power to the rear wheels, helping the Z51 hit 60 mph (96 km/h) from a standstill in less than three seconds.

Finally, What seems to have really excited people about the new Corvette is that it will start at less than $60,000 – much less than most had expected. Something tells us Chevy dealers are already putting the bubbly on ice…

Can’t get other that rear fascia and those proportions… But that price though!!!

  • kachuks

Imagine if the same bang-for-buck approach was also applied to pick up trucks.

    • ErnieB

It will cost as much as your average Silverado.. smh.

  • Six_Tymes

its growing on me, fast. and I haven’t even seen it in person, yet.

When I think Corvette, I think Blue, or Yellow.

  • Jason Miller

It’s funny how that dollar amount keeps getting published everywhere when that’s going to be the stripper base model. Add any options and I’m sure it will grow quickly. Then you have selfish dealers that will mark them up. Etc, etc.

    • Thetruthísntalwayspopular

Well exactly. It’s a headline grabbing soundbite which will bear little reality to the real world transaction price.

    • James Denz

The 2020 C8 is already nearly sold out. The price doesn’t seem to be of any issue regardless of options chosen.

      • Jason Miller

And I would bet that nearly all of those were OVER $60k. Hence my point.

  • 85ZingoGTR

Will be looking forward to the 70th anniversary edition when it comes out in 2023.

  • James Denz

2020 C8s are apparently close to being sold out already regardless of price.

    • Ben

That’s what they tell all the suckers.

  • Matteo Tommasi

That cheap spoiler makes it look like a kit car from the 90s

    • Bash

Well, you’ve said it. It’s stuff like that they do here and there and all combined, helps to achieve that 60K price tag.

    • Dark Rebel

Personally I don’t think it looks cheap, flows very nice with the design, and is also practical. Also cars from the 90s were not that advanced geometrically speaking, they had more of a sharp look.

    • Ben

Its a Corvette, very few vehicles have an after market as robust or better than the Corvette does like Wrangler or F150 might. Nearly anything will be changeable other than the interior shape or something structural like that.

  • StrangerGP

…until you come closer for a more detailed inspection 😉

    • Emoto

      Really? Do tell.

  • Sjaak

To make such a car, at that level, for that money, is even for serious kitcarbuilders hard to achieve. Just start counting the parts, the labour, to get it road legal, taxes and so on….. GM-Corvette must be on top of the hill with knowledge of fabrication.

  • ctk4949

Still dont like the rear, those square tailpipes look soooo out of place.

I bet its $59,999. That’s less than $60K lol. Just like BMW and Merc use to say their 3 series and C-class starts under $30K. It was $29,995 or something like that. LOL

  • Nick G

GM aero always looks so primitive and tacked on. I know it’s functional, but c’mon… it should be baked into the shape…

    • Ben

Its a reality of the cost. Its the same with a lot of American performance cars, such has Demon, Camaro ZL1 1LE, etc. The base car is as cheap to produce as possible and they add more per trim level. To an extent, this is what Porsche does and many other sports car makers, but they don’t try to make the base model cheap as possible.

  • Alexandro Pietro

Pashion and razon in the same package: too much?

  • Pablo Sanchez

A Chevrolet Corvette is NOT mid engine car.
This looks more like a McClaren than a ‘Vette.
Not for me, but hoping this release will lower the prices on the previous iteration!
