Infiniti Teases 2020 QX55 Coupe Crossover, Coming Next Summer

Infiniti’s crossover lineup will soon welcome a new sports utility coupe model dubbed QX55. How soon, you ask? Summer of 2020. The Japanese automaker released this brushstroke image of the vehicle, which shows a sloped roofline said to have been inspired by that of the first-generation FX.

This news comes hot on the heels of the automaker’s special ‘Edition 30’ model lineup reveal, which takes place at Pebble Beach, honoring Infiniti’s 30th anniversary.

“The INFINITI QX55 is a stunning new SUV coupe in the heart of one of the industry’s fastest growing segments, globally,” said Infiniti deputy chairman Mike Colleran. “Customers will appreciate the distinctive design of the QX55 which features a sporty coupe-like roofline. We know customers and retailers are eagerly looking forward to the QX55 which will be available next year.”

So if you used to love the FX (later dubbed QX70), then you might want to start getting excited for this new model, even though its “55” designation means we can expect a compact crossover, rather than something mid-size like the discontinued FX/QX70.

If that turns out to be the case, then the QX55 will serve as a direct rival to the likes of the BMW X4, Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe and perhaps even the Porsche Macan.

While there’s no mention of pricing as of right now, we expect the QX55 to cost a little more than the all-new 2019 QX50, which retails from $36,650, yet can run you as high as $45,450 if you go for the top of the range Essential AWD spec.

And still with no update to the Q60 (HP??? heads up display???) or that old dual screen info’tainment system.

  • Bash

I would have thought it’s a new sport coup sedan from that teaser if they didn’t mention it being an suv!

LOL, looks like every other sketch from infiniti

    Who? Who are these people?

Me, I need something to replace my FX30d with.

  • chris

why dont they start on fixing their garbage interiors and 90s infotainment 🤡

    • Mike anonymous

Have you @Chris actually even been inside of an Infinity vehicle recently? (Specifically their next generation Post 2014 vehicles).

Regarding the interiors; They are far from Garbage, are some of the best (and quite comfortable from my own personal experience), even on their older late 2000s models. Their more recent (new generation vehicles) are on Par in terms of quality with the Majority of Mercedes and BMW models released during the early to mid 2010s’ (post 2016/2017 Only 2 years ago… also consider they have not released a ‘new’ vehicle within that time frame while most other automakers are busy pumping out next generation vehicles.).

As for the infotainment system; again it would seem pretty far from Garbage as at the beginning of the decade were some of the most advanced infotainment systems you could get, and still can get within a luxury vehicle. Only recently have Mercedes (and MAYBE BMW) really surpassed them with their next generation systems.

Nothing against the other aforementioned companies, as they make great vehicles, or yourself, But I have seen the term 90s’ thrown around quite a lot with reference to old things (that really are not that old, and clearly don’t appear to be 20-30 years in age)…

But do you remember what most luxury vehicles were like at the beginning of the 2010sTHIS decade (from Mercedes & BMW and others). Forget the 90s’ or even the 2000s’,… luxury vehicles SIX YEARS ago were very different from vehicles today.

While I Do believe Infinity NEED to update a great many “Essence Concept Era” vehicles within their line, I personally would be ‘hard-pressed’ to call any new from the company ‘garbage‘.

      • ChicagoBlah

No, the infotainment on the cars are seriously dated, my crappy Ford blows it out of the water with sync 3

    • vanquishvantage

Agreed, Infiniti keeps missing the mark the entire sedan lineup has horrible interiors and everything except the new qx50 has a cheap dated interior

  • Eythan Aldrich

hmmm…..since the fx is my most favorite crossover…I’ll just wait and see

  • vanquishvantage

It doesn’t have 2 doors it will just have sportier styling. Also that’s not true on sedans vs crossovers entirely the Civic and CRV for example the CR-V has more cargo space than the Civic sedan and it’s more usable space because of the way the interior is designed
