The New Honda Fit Might Not Make It Into The United States

Honda is preparing for the world debut of the next generation Jazz / Fit, which is set to take place at the upcoming 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, but the news for prospective customers in the US are not good.

So far the company refers to the new model exclusively as the Jazz , adding that it will be available only as a hybrid in Europe, but the car maker has declined to comment on whether it’s coming to the US, according to Automotive News.

Honda is currently offering its greenest models in Europe, including the electric E hatchback, and plans to offer at least one electrified variant for each one of its models in the Old Continent by 2025.

2020 Honda Jazz - Fit 08

Sales of the Fit in the US market have fallen 17 percent through September. Selling a small car in the States has become increasingly difficult over the past few years and Honda might become the latest in a series of car makers to ditch this segment. The current NA-spec Fit is manufactured at the company’s factory in Mexico.

In any case, the next-generation Honda Jazz’s hybrid powertrain is expected to feature the company’s i-MMD dual-motor technology in combination with a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine and a CVT transmission.

The subcompact hatchback will retain its familiar shape, although the design will be less busy both inside and out. The interior will share most of its switchgear with the Honda e EV, but not its full-width display setup.

Too bad they can’t just make a Fit ‘Si” or “Type R” and use some of the stuff from the Civic Si. Could you imagine the Si engine in the fit? I’d buy that in a heartbeat!

Yes. A mini Minivan with too much power and poor handling.

disappointing. I was looking to replace my focus with a new fit/jazz. I am not a fan of the civic any longer and the mazda 3 hatch is too ugly in my opinion with that huge blind spot rear end. I guess it’ll be the VW golf.

      I guess you’ll be buying a used 2019

    • Honda NSX-R

You also have options like the Corolla Hatchback and Elantra GT

      • Dude

I wouldn’t go with the Corolla since it’s insanely slow. Even slower then the Fit with the CVT.

With crossover crazy America the entry level “car” will be the HRV

  • Karter Harmon-Wilkening

    Very disappointing.

Of course! I mean who still want this in NA. Maybe in the Philippine or in China or some countries in South America or Africa.

Honda clearly didn’t spend that much $ on this update because it knows that it probably won’t sell well in the US.
