A new 2023 Civic Type R equipped with a handful of official accessories from Honda Access has been shown in public for the first time.

The Civic Type R in question was displayed at Round 4 of the 2022 Super GT championship in Japan held at Fuji Speedway on August 6 and 7.

The most significant update made to the Civic Type R through Honda Access is the availability of a new carbon fiber rear wing. This wing doesn’t just weigh 1 kg (2.2 lbs) less than the stock one but it also has a much sharper and aggressive shape that should help to increase downforce. This wing is also intriguing as it has aerodynamic fins on the underside too.

Elsewhere, you’ll notice that this particular Civic Type R is bathed in Sonic Gray Pearl and is rocking a set of bright red wing mirrors, perfectly matching the red brake calipers, red badges, and red center caps.

Honda Access has also been busy developing a series of interior parts for the hot hatch. These include side-sill plates with an illuminated Type R logo, an aluminum shift knob wrapped in red leather, carbon fiber and red polyester trim, distinctive floor mats, new puddle lamps, and a wireless smartphone charger.

We know that Honda Access will begin selling the accessories to Japanese customers in September. However, it remains uncertain if other markets will also receive the parts.

Certain technical details about the new Civic Type R have also yet to be confirmed. While we know it will have a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, horsepower and torque figures haven’t been announced. One source from Japan claims that JDM variants will pack 326 hp and 310 lb-ft (420 Nm), serious figures for a car sold exclusively with front-wheel drive.
