This story contains independent speculative illustrations of a fictional Honda Civic Type R Sedan created by Theottle that are neither related to nor endorsed by Honda.

The Honda Civic Type R is one of the most anticipated hot hatches but what if the automaker also offered it in sports sedan form? Digital artist Theottle answered this question with a set of renderings, combining the aggressive bodykit of the Type R with the four-door silhouette of the Civic sedan.

The digital conversion started by adding the front end of the Type R into a Civic sedan, which is an easy thing to do since both bodystyle variants are sharing the same front-end structure. The next step included the version-specific alloy wheels featuring larger brakes, and aerodynamic side sill extensions. The tricky part is the addition of wider front and rear fenders in order to cover the wider front and rear tracks.

While the front fenders are probably interchangeable between the hatchback and the sedan, the rear fenders would require new molds since the four-door model sports a longer rear overhang. The same applies to the rear bumper which needs to be revised in order to adopt the same style with faux side inlets and a large diffuser housing a trio of exhaust pipes. Another highlight of the conversion is the rear wing, again in need of modifications so it matches the different incline of the sedan’s tailgate.

The end result looks rather convincing, although as noted by the digital artist a real-life conversion would be more challenging since the bespoke body panels would need a lot of extra work. We don’t know if someone will be brave enough to sacrifice a Civic Type R hatchback in order to make a custom Type R sedan, but for Honda such a move is highly unlikely. Having said, that, we should note that Honda has offered a Civic Type R sedan in the past, but only once. The four-door Type R FD2 was exclusively offered in Japan from 2007 until 2011 based on the eight-generation of the Civic, while the rest of the world got the five-door FN2 variant.

Rivals of a fictional new Honda Civic Type R sedan would include the Subaru Impreza WRX and the Hyundai Elantra N, although we are sure that the Honda would be priced much higher, coming with a more hardcore chassis setup to go with the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine and the FWD layout.
