• The i20 N Shadow Edition comes with exclusive matte bronze 18-inch wheels.
  • Hyundai Australia is capping production of the model to just 100 units.
  • Interior changes include Alcantara on the steering wheel and a numbered plaque.

The current-generation Hyundai i20 is on its last legs, set to be replaced soon by a thoroughly redesigned model, recently previewed as a high-riding model in Brazil. To help send off the outgoing car in style, Hyundai Australia has launched an exclusive new version of the feisty i20 N, known as the Shadow Edition.

Capped at just 100 units, exclusively for Australia, the i20 N Shadow Edition comes equipped with a host of special features and a slightly higher price tag. Perhaps the most obvious change is the fitment of distinctive, 18-inch matte bronze flow-forged alloy wheels, which look even better than the i20 N’s standard rims.

In addition, the car rocks new black wheel nuts and black decals running along the base of the doors. Whereas the regular model is available in five different colors, the Shadow Edition can only be painted in either Atlas White or Phantom Black.

A number of tweaks have also been made inside the hot hatch. These include a bronze numbered plaque affixed to the dashboard, an Alcantara gear knob, custom rubber floor mats with the same tread as the car’s Pirelli P Zero tires, and a steering wheel wrapped in soft-touch Alcantara with a Performance Blue 12 o’clock marker.

Familiar Power

No modifications have been made to the car’s powertrain. As such, it retains the familiar 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, rated at 201 hp (150 kW) between 5,500 and 6,000 rpm, and 203 lb-ft (275 Nm) of torque from 1,750 – 4,500 rpm. This power is sent to the front wheels through a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential, making the i20 N an absolute hoot to drive fast.

As mentioned, shoppers will have to pay for the privilege of owning a Shadow Edition. Whereas the base i20 N starts at AU$37,500 ($26,500) before on-road costs, prices for the Shadow Edition start at AU$41,500 ($29,300) in Atlas White, while the Phantom Black version is priced from AU$42,095 ($29,700).
