- Mercedes has introduced the facelifted GLE and GLS.

In one fell swoop, Mercedes has introduced the facelifted GLE, GLE Coupe, and GLE 53 Hybrids. They also unveiled the freshened GLS because, sure, why not.
The automaker is billing this as an “extensive update” as the GLE has approximately 3,000 new or revised components. The changes are immediately apparent as the crossovers adopt a new front fascia with a larger grille that features an illuminated central star as well as an available light up surround. They’re joined by starry headlights and new intakes, which feature subtle stars on their trim pieces.

The profile betrays the crossover’s age, but Mercedes tried to keep things fresh with a handful of updates. However, they largely fly under the radar as the company added new mirrors and updated wheels.
Out back, there are slimmer taillights with three-dimensional star graphics. They’re connected by a new black panel and chrome trim piece.
A Modernized Interior With A Passenger Display
Some of the biggest changes occur inside, where drivers will find a newly standard MBUX Superscreen that consists of three 12.3-inch displays. This change necessitated a revamped dashboard, which incorporates new air vents.
They’re joined by a modern steering wheel, updated upholstery, and three new trim options. The latter are known as Natural Grain Dark Brown Birch Wood, Natural Grain Brown Walnut Wood, and Light Flowing Lines Polished Aluminum.

Rounding out the highlights are the new Mercedes-Benz Operating System and an AI-infused MBUX Virtual Assistant. Buyers can also get a new Burmester 3D Surround Sound system, which is more powerful than its predecessor and features 15 speakers including two new 3D units in the roof.
Updated Engines And A New Twin-Turbo V8
In the United States, the GLE will be offered with four different powertrains including an improved turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder developing 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Customers can also get a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with 375 hp and 413 lb-ft. They’re joined by a new flat-plane crank twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 pumping out 530 hp and 553 lb-ft.
If that’s not enough variety, there’s a new GLE 500e 4MATIC plug-in hybrid. It combines the 3.0-liter inline-six with an electric motor and a battery pack. This setup enables the crossover to have a WLTP electric-only range of 66 miles (106 km).
2027 Mercedes GLE Coupe
The GLE Coupe has a far less interesting engine lineup that consists exclusively of the 375 hp turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six. It enables the model to accelerate from 0-60 mph in approximately 5.2 seconds, before hitting a limited top speed of 130 mph.
The GLE 53 Hybrids have a “further developed” turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, which is paired with a battery and an electric motor. This gives the SUV and Coupe a combined output of 577 hp and 553 lb-ft. The impressive numbers enable both models to hit 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, before topping out at 155 mph.
2027 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Hybrid
When the battery is low, a 60 kW DC fast charger enables the plug-in hybrid to go from a 10 to 80 percent charge in approximately 20 minutes.
Last but not least is the GLS, which offers both the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six and twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8. We can expect them to be joined by a GLS 63 later.
New Driver Assistance Technology
Mercedes barely mentioned it, but the updated lineup will be offered with MB.Drive Assist Pro. It’s an advanced Level 2+ semi-autonomous driving system that debuted on the CLA and is notable for offering hands-free navigation in cities.
We can expect to learn more closer to launch, but previous reports have suggested the service will cost $3,950 for a three year subscription. However, the company could also offer a monthly plan for people to try it out.
