Some owners connect with their cars in such a way that they never want to part ways. Take for example this BMW M5 E28 and its owner, Randy Balingit-Hartmann from the latest Petrolicious video. How else could one explain the fact that this man has bought the car new in 1989 and never ever thought about selling it or trading it for something more modern?

Upon a closer look, he would have been really unwise to sell it. BMW only hand-built 2,191 M5s between 1985 and 1988, which makes the E28 sports sedan a much rarer sight than the more popular E30 M3. If you want a more exclusive ride from BMW M, only the M1, M5 Touring E34 and 850CSi qualify.

A truly understated gem, the E28 M5 was the first generation M5 ever made. It came with a 3.5-liter straight-six naturally aspirated engine with 286 PS (282 hp), basically an evolution of the unit from the BMW M1 supercar.

The 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) acceleration of 6,2 seconds still qualifies the E28 M5 among fast cars, while its timeless and understated styling makes it one of the most desirable M cars ever made.

So if you’re curious how it is to own a car like this for 24 years and 400,000 miles (644,000 km), check out the video below.
