A problem of the current automotive context is that, through the unhealthy practice of creating dozens of niches, the basic idea of classes and what is adquate for a car to have become really blurry. That’s why we were wondering if Tesla’s upcoming Model X high-rider would also be offered as a rwd model too, given that its conventional rivals all offer the choice and its predictably high price.
Now, a GreenCarReports reader spotted that the two-wheel drive option had been removed from the manufacturer’s official site, on the page where people could preorder their Model X and this prompted them to send an email inquiring about the matter, to which they got a positive reply (confirmation) from the official source.
The Silicon Valley-based firm’s representative explained that, it was the will of the buyers who crushingly opted for more traction, and therefore, it was decided to not offer it.
Besides, having two separate (powerful) motors that independently drive each axle will have a great impact on how the X performs on the road; I again have to bring up Chris Harris’ drive of the all-electric Mercedes-Benz SLS and the conclusions he drew, to understand why it’s such a great thing.
