Starting June, compact Audis will roll off the assembly line with a new filter in their climate controls.

Its use is to neutralize most allergens and removes fine particulates and harmful gases from the air.

Confirming the effectiveness of the four-ring brand’s filters are institutions such as SGS Fresenius, which investigates allergenic properties, and Fiatec GmbH, which tests their properties.

Available in two versions, each with three layers, the filter has a new outer carrier layer, featuring an additional anti-allergen effect. In the first variant, allergens are reduced by means of plant-derived, bioactive substances, called polyphenols, which attach to the receptors of the allergens, while the second one uses a modification of the protein structure in order to achieve the desired effect.

The two layers present in existing filters also make a significant contribution to the high air quality in the interior. The filtration layer made up of special microfibers removes even the tiniest of particulates from the air. Gaseous impurities are trapped in the activated carbon layer“, Audi writes.

The first models to benefit from the new air conditioning filter will be the A1, A3, Q3 and TT, while the Q2 will be equipped with it at market launch. Owners can also have it retrofitted as part of their regularly scheduled service intervals.
