After the notorious “Dieselgate” scandal, Volkswagen has a stigma that needs to be addressed, that’s why the German car manufacturer wants to focus its energy on electric vehicles.

According to Auto Bild, Volkswagen is allegedly working on a purposely-designed electric vehicle to challenge BMW‘s i3, called NUVe, and company wants to unveil it in October, at the Paris Motor Show.

The new model will be built on the MEB chassis (Modular Electrification Kit) specially developed for all-electric compact cars. The platform, showcased along with VW’s BUDD-E concept at the CES 2016 in Las Vegas, allows for a flat-floor type battery which enables more interior space utilization than the current E-Golf (and Passat, for that matter).

Compared to the i3, Volkswagen’s all-electric compact will offer a bigger range than the Bavarian vehicle, with Volkswagen looking to make it available for purchase by 2019, with a sub $40,000 price tag.

The German publications goes on saying that the NUVe project is one of six concepts to be built on the MEB platform, and four of these have a good chance of making it into production.
