The BMW M4 GTS costs almost twice as much as the standard car and to the unobservant, looks no different bar the rear wing, front splitter and orange wheels. But when driven on a track, does the most hardcore BMW model available live up to the hype and its price tag?

Carfection recently had the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a stunning white GTS on a racetrack and beyond being understandably impressed by the model, suggests that in terms of lap times, it could trouble the much lighter Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

Just like the previous E92-generation M3 GTS, this new track-tuned M4 weighs less than the standard car, has much more power and thanks to some aero parts and upgraded suspension, offers up mountains of additional grip.

Tipped the scales at 3,330 pounds (1,510 kg) with the dual-clutch transmission, the M4 GTS is by no means light. However if this video is to be believed, the model’s handling is a match for much lighter sports cars, even if it isn’t all that appropriate for use on the street.

Is it worth double the standard car? Well the 700 owners who snapped up the car obviously think so.
