With some people starting to get cold feet regarding Tesla’s Autopilot function, others thought it would be a good idea to make a very clear video regarding what you should and shouldn’t expect from the automaker’s semi-autonomous tech.

If you’re trying to stop yourself from overreacting to these recent crash investigations into Tesla’s Autopilot system, look no further than Elon Musk stating that the system wasn’t even activated during the recent Pennsylvania accident.

As for the incident in Montana where a Model X broke through a wooden guardrail, Tesla concluded that the system wasn’t being used properly since the road didn’t have a center divider and the driver didn’t respond to the system prompting him to put his hands on the wheel.

Now, with the help of a Model S P90D, one Tesla owner set out to demonstrate when we should use the system and when we shouldn’t, based on his personal experience with the car – which seems to be quite extensive.

We recommend you watch the video for yourselves in order to better understand the system and figure out when it might become a liability if left unchecked.

You’ll see that even during a single commute, Autopilot will struggle intermittently, which means that you, as the driver, should never really take your hands off the wheel unless the highway (and only highway) you’re on is in perfect working order.
