As arguably the most outspoken and well-known motoring journalist in the industry, Amazon’s Jeremy Clarkson should know that his personal car preferences can influence quite a lot of people.

That being said, in his most recent piece on The Sunday Times, he revealed his top 10 drives of the past year (or so). The former Top Gear presenter went on to name a couple of surprises in a list that also holds quite a few more or less logical choices for any car enthusiast.

While we’re pretty certain his list comes in no particular order, we are a little bit surprised the Mazda MX-5 2.0 Sport Recaro is in there, since Mr Clarkson is known for appreciating power above all else, which is something the MX-5 lacks – but more than makes up for in agility. He even goes on to call it “a cure for depression”, which means he really liked it.

The full list, also includes the Alfa Romeo 4C Coupe, the Mercedes-AMG GT S, Focus RS, Mustang Fastback 5.0 V8 GT, Volvo XC90 D5 AWD, the Vauxhall Zafira Tourer 1.6 CDTi Tech Line (yes you read that correctly), the BMW M2, Ferrari 488 GTB and the Lamborghini Aventador.

Again, judging by what Jeremy Clarkson has taught us about himself, the Mustang is also a curious addition to his list, as is the Zafira of course and perhaps even the Aventador, which he says he’d take over something like the McLaren P1 because “which would you rather have as a pet: a clever and sophisticated electronic robot? Or a bloody great brontosaurus?”

We’ll let you answer that question among yourselves, while also considering Clarkson actually called the Zafira “the most comfortable car in the world.”

As for all of his other choices, we’d like to think they’re pretty obvious.
