Second-Generation BMW i8 To Get Huge Power Boost To 750 HP?

A second iteration of the BMW i8 is said to be in the works and if new reports are to be believed, it will take a far more performance-focused approach than the existing model.

With the current car’s combination of a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine and two electric motors, the i8 has 362 hp on tap, enough to make it comparable to entry-level Porsche 911s. For the second-gen model however, Automobile Magazine reports power could rise to a stratospheric 750 hp.

The publication suggests that the new i8, expected to arrive in 2022 or 2023, will ditch an internal combustion engine and rely solely on three high-revving electric motors. When combined with an even more capable battery, the new car may have a range of upwards of 300 miles (482 km), just 10 miles down on the current car despite all the additional power.

Beyond the insane new powertrain, it is thought that the second-gen i8 will welcome four-wheel drive to funnel the power to the ground, four-wheel steering and an advanced torque vectoring system making it well and truly worth of being dubbed a true all-electric supercar.

What’s more, there’s also a good chance it will receive an active suspension system which will scan the road ahead and adjust itself accordingly.

Alongside all the technical changes, an overhauled design seems probable.
