Looking to put the cheating emissions scandal aside and focus on the future with alternatively-powered vehicles, Volkswagen have their eyes on 30 new electric models by 2025.

One of them will be heading to the 2016 Paris Auto Show this fall in prototype form, according to Electrek, citing the manufacturer’s CEO, Hebert Diess, who spoke on the subject with German magazine WirtschaftsWoche.

The Volkswagen official stated that the new study will be roughly the size of a Volkswagen Golf, but it will set itself apart from the competition with the boot space of a Passat and a range of 400 to 600 km (249 to 371 miles) in the NEDC. Set to hit the assembly lines by the turn of the century, the prototype will be apparently close in design to the final production version

Diess continued to talk about the automotive giant’s intention of producing millions of electric vehicles annually next decade, but in order to keep manufacturing costs down, VW will need to take care of the battery production, which is in line with reports that clearly indicate plans for a battery plant, one that could eventually open in China.
