As part of Elon Musk’s ambitious plan to have a Tesla badge adorning every single form of transport, the innovator has confirmed that his brand will launch a pickup truck as part of its second Master Plan.

All that’s known about the vehicle is that it will be a so-called “new kind of pickup”. We have no idea what that means, but when the model becomes a reality, it should be the world’s first electric pickup. The question is, what will it look like?

One possibility is something akin to a Model S or X on stilts with a load bed instead of a rear decklid. Virtuel Car went for something bolder, imagining the Tesla pickup as a competitor to the popular Ford F-150 Raptor.

The Raptor is loved for its brutish, in-your-face looks and this rendering of a Tesla rival, with massive off-roading tires, an aluminum skid plate at the front and a set of widened wheel arches, looks the part. So far, though, Tesla’s design language is entirely different, though, so it will be interesting to see which way it will go.

Given the stupendous amounts of instantly available torque provided by an electric powertrain, a Tesla pickup will be ideal for carrying hefty loads and towing. No launch date has been announced yet, but it will most likely be after the minibus.
