Skoda used the Geneva motor show to shine the spotlight on its new and more powerful Octavia RS 230.

The car has 230 PS (10 PS more than stock) or 227 hp and this helps it shave a tenth off its benchmark sprint time and adds 2 km/h to the car’s top speed which increases to 250 km/h (155 mph); it also gets a standard electronic differential in this version and lower, stiffer springs.

Looks-wise, there’s nothing flashy about it. However, it does get some unique touches like a tasteful spoiler and the more pleasing look of the lowered suspension; the available estate version has no spoiler, though.

As a proposition, it’s really hard to beat this with whatever car you have, even a premium one. It’s not as nice to drive as the Golf GTI it’s based on, but its slightly softer suspension that that car should make it a better cruiser.
