The potent and driver-focused BAC Mono has just launched in Hong Kong following the opening of the British firm’s first showroom in the Kowloon Bay region.

At the vehicle’s launch, eight of the ten BAC Monos allocated for the local market were sold, each priced at around $4 million HK locally or just over $500,000 USD, due to the extensive local taxes applied to the track-focused sports car. As it stands, the Mono isn’t legal for road use in Mainland China, but BAC is in the midsts of getting it cleared for such use.

Local sales and marketing will be handled by the newly formed BAC Hong Kong. Additionally, the outfit will oversee the rest of China and Taiwan. The opening of the Asian arm of the niche automaker comes a few months after it launched in Japan.

All customers across Asia will receive the 2016 model year BAC Mono, rather than the 2015 car displayed at the launch. While the 2015 car utilities a naturally-aspirated inline-four engine from Cosworth with 280 hp on tap, the 2016 BAC Mono has a 2.5-litre inline-four pumping out 305 hp.

Discussing the local launch, company founder Neill Briggs said “The launch of BAC Hong Kong and BAC Japan demonstrates the global success of the Mono supercar. For us as a British company to take our brand new UK-built 2016 Mono to all corners of the globe makes us immensely proud.”
