Alfa Romeo Spider Inspired By Giulia Has The Build-It-Now Factor

The Spider was a prime example of stylish Italian open-top motoring and it wouldn’t hurt Alfa

Since 1966, when it was launched at the 36th edition of the Geneva Motor Show, Alfa Romeo continued to develop the drop-top in six generations.

The last one left the assembly lines in 2010. Six years is too long to wait, especially in the face of the ever stiffening competition.

With the brand being buoyant about the Giulia, and since the saloon is a good starting point for other future models that are bound to enter Alfa Romeo’s lineup, IndavDesign has injected some new pixels into the Spider, with visual influences from the brand’s latest four-door, wrapped around its underpinnings.

In theory it would have worked very nicely. The reality is that FCA chose Fiat and Abarth for their version of the MX-5 roadster, they aren’t exactly loaded with cash and Alfa’s future is entwined with the Giulia, so there’s no Spider on their schedule right now.

Here;s hopping: is one looks a new Spider could probably re-establishing Alfa’s image in the 21st century.

That looks great! Could have, should have been.

    • Andrewthecarguy

Not too late. On the same line that makes the Fiata, no reason why this Alfata can’t be made.

  • Tumbi Mtika

    Miata, much?

    • Six Thousand Times

Just used as a base for the chop. No harm done. And you’re still killing me with those GIFs.

  • J Hod

    surprisingly attractive

  • javier

just as well, the miata is tiny and cramped and not fitting for alfa. Yes the spider was small too but it did not exclude medium and up sized humans.

  • Biggsy

    Looks better than the Abarth

  • pcurve

that big face needs bigger chassis than Miata…

  • Shobin Drogan

Had they made this based on the miata, id take it over the hideous fiat 124

  • roy

    My god this is beautiful

  • fabri99

I’m not really fond of this rendering, but yes, the 124 should have been an Alfa Romeo Duetto/Spider instead.

  • Markey

Drove past the old Pininfarina plant which made the last spider, now mothballed. In a corner there were several unsold spiders collecting dust (or unsellable pre-production or test cars). The cars looked magnificent in their sad state.
Felt very sad to see such long neglect for this brand.
Here to many more sisters to the Giulia.

  • Fiata

Alfa should do a “Fiata” version of the Fiat 124 Spider (based on the new Mazda MX-5) and here it is…

  • Sjaak

way too common, an alfa needs to be special, this is not

    • Andrewthecarguy

I disagree. If Alfa is to bring itself back strong in the US market, it needs an entry level car and this is perfect.

      • Sjaak

I drove Alfa’s because they were special, loaded with character . Had soul, had charm, were elegant, were original, had alfa only sound, and a strong sporty heart. That is why people drove Alfa’s. This design does not pull one those Alfa-boxes for me. Said that, a design must be seen/judged in real life or 3-d. Buti n my opinion, to give examples, the Proteo or the 2014 Spyder proposal, did the job much better.

        • Andrewthecarguy

I feel you. But I think money that could have gone to such a car has probably been spent on this Q ship.

  • Skip

Very nice… so much better than the horrible Fiata.

  • MarkoS

Maybe partnering with Mazda and co-develop with the next RX7. Ship the chassis to Italy and add the body and engine there.
