Audi is calling in nearly 80,000 of its automobiles across the United States due to a lighting problem.

According to the recall notice issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the problem comes down to the software regulating the side marker lights. Apparently those lights may not illuminate when the parking lights or headlights are on, thereby decreasing the car’s visibility (especially at night) and increasing the risk of a crash.

The issue has been identified on a wide range of vehicles, including the A3 sedan, convertible, and e-tron hybrid hatchback, the A4 sedan, TT coupe and convertible, and Q3 and Q7 crossovers, covering a total range of 2015-2017 models.

All told, that amounts to an estimated 79,895 units in America alone. Fortunately fixing the problem will come down to simply uploading revised software, but that’ll still require all those owners to bring their cars in to their local dealership.
