For the past couple of months, we’ve seen an array of scoop images and teasers of a new SUV from Haval, which was originally widely believed to be the successor to the Chinese brand’s local market H5.

However, according to the latest official teasers, that won’t be the case as Haval itself communicated that it won’t be a replacement for the H5. While we don’t know what it will be named yet, a report from China’s Auto 163 says that the SUV will be independent of Haval’s H and F series models.

Whatever name it carries, it will have an all-new boxy look that’s more akin to the forthcoming Ford Bronco than other Haval SUVs

The vehicle will allegedly be based around the company’s new vehicle platform known internally as ‘B06’. Details about the SUV’s powertrain are unclear, but in these teasers, we can see the front will sport a large grille complemented by circular headlights and daytime running lights. The front end also appears quite off-road focused and looks to include a bash plate and fog lights. A side-profile shot is perhaps even more telling and shows the new Haval SUV has very short front and rear overhangs, inevitably helping both its approach and departure angles when driven off-road.

A look at the side also reveals a boxy shape with a high beltline and prominent wheel arches. There also looks to be quite a lot of ground clearance. As for the rear, it features similar sideways L-shaped taillights to the Haval Concept H unveiled earlier this year in India.

Inside, the upcoming model from Haval  includes an all-digital instrument cluster, a large central infotainment display, and a chunky three-spoke steering wheel.

Correction: A previous version of this article erroneously labeled Haval’s upcoming car as an H5 replacement. The new SUV will be an independent model.
