The teaser campaign for the 2022 Citan continues as Mercedes has released new details about its infotainment system and safety equipment.

Noting “safety is a core principle at Mercedes-Benz,” the company revealed the redesigned van will offer an “extensive range of modern driving assistance systems.”

In particular, Mercedes confirmed the Citan will have Active Lane Keeping Assist just like the new C- and S-Class. The system will come standard on the Citan Tourer and be joined by Active Brake Assist, Blind Spot Assist and Speed Limit Assist.

The entry-level van is less advanced, but it will come equipped with Crosswind Assist and Hill Start Assist as well as ABS and ESP systems. The model will also have a telematics system, which can give authorities your exact GPS location in the event of a serious accident.

That’s just scratching the surface as an assortment of other driving assistance systems will be optional. They include Active Distance Assist Distronic and Active Steering Assist, which helps to keep the van centered in its lane.

Sticking with safety, the Citan will come equipped with up to seven standard airbags. The Tourer is notable as it features a central airbag, which inflates between the driver and front passenger during a severe side collision.

On the infotainment side of things, Mercedes revealed there will be “various versions” of the MBUX infotainment system. At least one of them will have a 7-inch touchscreen display with GPS navigation as well as natural language voice control technology.

The 2022 Citan and electric eCitan will be unveiled on August 25th and go up for order in mid-September. The models were developed in collaboration with the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance and will share a number of similarities with the Renault Kangoo.
